This scale model began as a 1/50 miniature of the classic MUT 205 garbage truck, a compact tribute to one of Austria’s most widely used municipal vehicles. But things quickly evolved. The next version was built at 1/24 scale, equipped with an electric drive and designed as a fully modular system.
All parts were built from scratch. Since translating a full scale truck into a much smaller format comes with a lot of challenges, nearly everything had to be redrawn and reengineered. Even the MAN chassis had to be completely rebuilt to fit the scale and function properly, so a few tiny details may have been sacrificed along the way. That said, the model includes several working features – for example, the cabin doors can open to reveal the electronics hidden inside.
As always, the build followed a very resourceful approach. Most parts were 3D printed, held together with standard M3 screws and nuts, and reinforced using brass tubes ranging from 1 to 6 millimeters in diameter. The electronics and control system? Borrowed from a discounted Revell model car, because why reinvent the wheel when the toy store has it on sale?
